Gothic Obsessions Gimp Tutorial

For this tag, I used a kit called Gothic Obsessions by Crystal's Creations that was part of a collab. You can find an AWESOME deal on the entire collab, just click HERE to find out about it!

I used an exclusive tube by Keith Garvey named Sonya, only offered at the Tagger's Den forum. Alot of challenges and creative ability there, feel free to go check it out yourself!

You can find non exclusives of Keith Garvey's art, just head over to PTE.

The mask I used is FTU and from Creationz by Witchy's Heart, it's #16 and you can download it from her blog, HERE. Make sure you check out all her other amazing masks while you're there :)

To get started...

1. Open a new canvas- 800 x 800. The background will come up white, to make it transparent, go to LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.

2. Open as a new layer the mask. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA.

3. Open as a new layer paper 8 in kit. Go to LAYERS>TRANSPARENCY>ADD ALPHA CHANNEL. Then right click on the mask layer in layers box and choose Alpha to Selection. Click on the paper layer in layers box again to make it active. Go to SELECT>INVERT then EDIT>CLEAR. This paper is now exactly like the mask. Adjust the opacity slider to about 45% on this paper mask layer.

4. Open as layers element 15 in the kit (black frame). Then right click on it in layers box and Alpha to Selection. SELECT>GROW by 6. Add a new layer then use the bucket fill tool to fill it in with a red shade. Add noise to this layer by going to FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE and keep the settings at 20/20/20/0.

5. Open as layers paper 11 and use the ellipse select tool to create a circle inside of the black frame (element 15) then go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>ADD ALPHA CHANNEL and SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR.

6. Open as layers your tube of choice. This one came with 2 sizes, I just tucked the larger tube layer under the red noise layer we made in step 4 and above the paper layer in step 5. I flipped the layer and then used the putthe opacity slider over to 60%. With the other tube, I just moved her over the the right and gave her a drop shadow by going to FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW> DROPSHADOW and the settings at 8/8/16.

7. Open as layers element 24 (the wire fencing) and then right click on the black frame (element 15) and choose Alpha to Selection. Go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. This will leave the fencing just within the black frame. Adjust the opacity slider to 55%.

8. With the star in the tube layers- move it to the left side and then duplicate it and flip the copy using the flip tool. Keep these here for now.

9. Open as layers element 7 (wired heart)in kit and scale down to 157 x 126. Duplicate and flip like you did in step 8.

10. Open as layers element 37 in kit (red rose) and scale to 150 x 136 and then do the same like step 8 & 9.

11. Open as layers element 34 in kit (black rose) and scale down to 214 x 194. This will be the center of these elements... then use each double of all the others in steps 10, 9 and 8 to place around it... in that order outwards. On the left side like my example.

12. Open as layers element 35 from kit (candle) and scale to 141 x 326. Set it in front of the black rose (element 34).

13. I used a font called Maniac in a shade of red. I had to type each letter out separetly and then set them where I liked it. Then I merged those layers together so that the text was all in one layer... I added noise (see how in step 4) with the same settings. Then I right clicked on that layer in layer box and chose Alpha to Selection. Then go to SELECT>GROW by 2 and added a new layer and filled it in with black. Then I added a drop shadow with the same settings as in step 6.

14. Make sure to put the correct credit to your tag- artist name, website and license number (if applicable) must be on your tag. Artists work hard to make tubes and posers and crediting their work is appreciated and just common courtesy...

I hope you like this tag and have fun trying this tutorial :) xoxox
