S.S. Steampunk Fairy Gimp Tag Tutorial

I am a big fan of Sarah B. Seiter and put in a tube request over at The Zone Groups and there it is. I just look at it in awe LOL thank you so much Mona, for tubing this gorgeous fairy! Sarah's art can be found at Deviant Art and a couple of her tubes are available over at The Zone Groups :)

I used a kit called Cornelia Marie Quincy by Wicked Princess Scraps which is currently on SALE!!!! HERE and HERE!

This tag should be something even beginner Gimpers can do! Let's get started!

1. Make a new image- size it 600 x 600. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA to make background transparent.

2. Open as layers the patio fence. Scale to 235 x 396. Duplicate and flip. Place them together in the middle, overlapping the center. Merge these 2 layers.

3. Open the pansy and scale to 92 x 345, then LAYER>TRANSFORM>ROTATE 90 degrees and place on right side of fence. Duplicate, flip copy and place copy on left side of fence. When they're places, merge these 2 layers.

4. Open the rosevine. Scale to 192 x 321. LAYER>TRANSFORM>FLIP VERTICALLY then duplicate and flip. Set these in the middle of the fence. Merge the 2 layers.

5. Open the tube of choice. For this piece of art, I scaled it to 696 x 354. Place accordingly.

6. Open photobracket. Scale to 67 x 67.

7. Open fragipini flower. Scale to 88 x 123. Go to COLORS>COLORIZE, levels at 353/23/13 and then OK. Go to COLORS>BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST and set the levels at -60/-5. This flower should now be a dusky rose hue. Place it on top of photobracket. Merge the flower and photobracket layers. Duplicate and flip. Move this copy BEHIND the tube layer. Then duplicate the copy. Move this copy IN FRONT OF the tube layer. Right click on tube layer, ALPHA TO SELECTION. Click on merged flower/bracket layer in layers box that is IN FRONT and go to EDIT>CLEAR. Now the fairy's wing looks as if it's peeking up over a bit.

8. Place your correct copyright on your tag, include the copyrigth symbol, artist's name and website as well as license numbers, if applicaple.

9. I used a font called Vivaldi Italic Condensed size 60 in white. I used the picker tool to get the blue shade from the tube. Right click the text layer in layers box, ALPHA TO SELECTION then add a new layer and fill it with the blue shade you picked. Add noise- FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOISE 20/20/20/0 and then add a drop shadow- FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW 3/3/15. Click on the white text layer once more, go to FILTERS>DECOR>ADD BEVEL with thickness 5 and work on copy checked.

10. Use the rectangle select tool to crop your image, make the selection and while marching ants are showing, go to IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION.

11. Save as a .xcf file so you may come back and redo things if necessary. When satisfied, save as .png

Thank you for viewing this tutorial :) xoxox

Breastfeeding Resources

Are you in need of breastfeeding info? Want to know where to look? Here's some places I recommend!

1. The Breastfeeding Moms group on Cafemom! The ladies in here are VERY supportive and will encourage you to continue thru the weak moments, when you think you're gonna give up. I am very thankful for this group, it has helped me NUMEROUS times.
2. LactMed. This database will inform you of trials that have been completed with each drug and the outcomes. It gives accurate information and is always up to date. Great for anyone that has to take prescription medication! I think it's always best to check things out yourself and not just trust what others say.
3. The Quintessence Foundation. They encouraged me to start a local competition for the annual global record they have. We placed 99th globally for Largest Site! My local site has a Facebook page, it's link is to the right of my blog... Feel free to like that page! I want to say to other breastfeeding mommas to look into this and either find their closest local competition OR start one if they can't find one. You can also count yourself from home! Check it out :)
4. Infant Risk Center by Dr. Hale. This webforum along with helpful articles is a multitude of knowledge.
5. The Peaceful Parenting blog. This blog is fun, relaxed and promotes natural parenting techniques. I love reading the posts on there :)
6. Kellymom is the number one source I hear referenced.
7. La Leche League International is another site that is used by breastfeeding mothers round the world and has local support groups!
8. The World Health Organization says, "Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond." And has all the statistics in one place to look thru.
9. Your local WIC office (you can find an alphabetical list of state offices HERE). The website says, "WIC participants who reported having received advice to breastfeed their babies from the WIC clinic were more likely to breastfeed than other WIC participants or eligible nonparticipants."
10. Your local Health Department, or their website geared for women's health HERE. There often is a certified lactation specialist that works at your county health department and can help you find resources in case you need more!

These are the sites I have used for resources and I have found alot of support and help by visiting these sites, so I hope you may find them helpful also!

"My Dad Rocks" Gimp Tag Tutorial

For this tag, you can use any photos of your choice! It is a tag to commemorate Dad... I used photos of my main squeeze and our two lil munchkins. These are photos taken by me!
You will want the PTU kit Daddy's Special Day by Creative Scraps by Crys, which you can find HERE.
While you're over there, pick up the FTU template Crys made HERE.
And grab the mask pack I have on my blog HERE because I used the wavy mask in there :)

Let's get started.
1. Open a new canvas, size 800 x 800. Go to LAYER>TRANSPARENCY>COLOR TO ALPHA to make background transparent.
2. Open up as new layer paper 3 in kit. Right click this layer in layers box and choose ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.
3. Open up as new layer the masks. Delete the top and bottom layers, you want to use the WAVY mask. Right click on this layer and choose ALPHA TO SELECTION and then click on paper 3 layer of kit to make active. Go to SELECT>INVERT and then EDIT>CLEAR. The paper layer now should be your mask layer. So delete the original wavy mask layer, then duplicate the new paper mask layer. We'll come back to this in a bit.
4. Now you need to open up as new layer the template. Delete Raster 1, 3, 4, merged and 6. Then colorize Raster 2 to a medium to dark blue, and add a drop shadow (FILTERS>LIGHT AND SHADOW>DROP SHADOW with settings at 3, 3, 15). Right click on Raster 5 in layer box, choose ALPHA TO SELECTION. Make a new layer and make your color box have a light turquoise blue as foreground and a medium/dark blue as the background color. Click on the BLEND TOOL and check settings- make sure the shape is spiral cw, then starting from middle to the the upper left corner draw a line. The text should now be the blended colors... Add noise. FILTERS>NOISE>RGB NOSIE with settings at 20/20/20/0. SELECT>NONE and delete the original Raster 5 layer from template. Use the eraser tool to erase the stars that are a part of this layer, if you like, at the bottom... Then right click and ALPHA TO SELECTION then SELECT>GROW by 2. Add new layer and fill with white. Add a drop shadow with same settings used as above.
5. Open as layers frame 4 in kit. Scale to 330 x 207. Add drop shadow.
6. Open as layers grass #1 in kit and scale to 250 x 208, duplicate and place on each side.
7. Open as layers frog 2 in kit and scale to 148 x 172 , place accordingly. Add drop shadow.
8. Open as layers boat in kit and scale to 185 x 121. Add drop shadow.

9. Open as layers fishing pole and scale to 153 x 338. Add drop shadow.

10. Open as layers bow 2 and scale to 122 x 55 then duplicate and flip and place accordingly. Merge bow layers and add drop shadow.

11. Go back to the mask layers and make sure that you can see it on both top and bottom. so just put one above the other just slightly. Or you can grow just the one if you'd like. Just use the slider for opacity on the top and move it to about 50% if you use both.

12. Open as layers the photos you want to use. Right click on each layer and choose ADD ALPHA CHANNEL. Then use the rectangle or ellipse tool to crop out excess. Make the selection and go to SELECT>INVERT and EDIT>CLEAR. Repeat per photo. This may take a couple tries, but it gets easier as you do it.

13. When you're done, add your tag name and any copyright info if necessary. Use the rectangle select tool to crop your tag. Make selection, then IMAGE>CROP TO SELECTION. Save as .xcf so you can get back in and make changes as necessary and save as.png when you're satisfied.

Thanks for viewing this tutorial! Hope you like what you saw :) xoxox

Ok, I am really new at making masks LOL... But I had these laying around for a little while and wanted to offer them! You can use them for commercial use or personal use. TOU state that they can't be redistributed as a stand alone product, or redistributed as CU when in original form. There are 3 in the pack, all in one PSD file to make it easier. I hope you can find some use for them! Click the preview to go to 4shared... And please, if you download, leave some love :) xoxox
